Credit: Mark OwensTonight in Minneapolis, The Moody Blues continue their North American tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of their symphonic-rock masterpiece, Days of Future Passed. The "Days of Future Passed -- 50th Anniversary" trek, which kicked off in early June, features the veteran British band playing the entire 1967 album, as well as various favorite songs from throughout the group's long career.

Moody Blues singer/bassist John Lodge tells ABC Radio that the audiences' reception to the show so far "has been fantastic."  He also notes that the band felt it was important to mark Days of Future Passed's golden anniversary in a special way.

"It is a major milestone," he says. "If you go back to 1967, we were young musicians with a few songs in our books and a few melodies in our heart…and went into the studio for a week and recorded this album…And it obviously changed our lives forever."

The concept record was among the first featuring a rock band accompanied by an orchestra, and included the enduring Moody Blues tunes "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon." For most of the 50th anniversary concerts, the band plays alongside taped orchestral parts recorded especially for the tour, while a few shows will feature a live orchestra.

The concerts also feature a multimedia presentation including a prerecorded video of actor Jeremy Irons reading the album-closing poem "Late Lament," that originally was recited by founding keyboardist Mike Pinder.

Several songs from Days of Future Passed are being played live for the first time ever on this trek, including "Evening Time to Get Away," "The Sunset" and "Dawn Is a Feeling." "It was interesting to go back and rei-nvestigate how we did those," Lodge tells ABC Radio. (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

Thirty years ago today, Whitney Houston became the first woman to have a #1 album debut

Dave Hogan/Getty ImagesThirty years ago today, Whitney Houston set a record that may surprise you.

Whitney's second album, simply called Whitney, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart on June 27, 1987.  What's the big deal?  It was the first album ever by a woman to do so.

The first album overall ever to debut at #1 was Elton John's Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy, and that was in 1975, so it took 12 years for a female artist to achieve the same feat.

Whitney's self-titled 1986 debut album spent 14 weeks at #1.  The Whitney album not only debuted at #1, but it also spun off four #1 hits, including "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)," "So Emotional," "Where Do Broken Hearts Go," and "Didn't We Almost Have It All."  She also was the first female artist to score four #1s from a single album.

When Whitney hit #1, it marked another milestone for the late diva: she became the first artist to reach #1 with their first two albums since The Monkees did it in 1966 and 1967.

ABC/Randy HolmesMariah Carey is currently in Israel promoting her collaboration with Israeli skincare line Premier Dead Sea Cosmetics, which she wrote about on Twitter.

But during a interview with Israel's Channel 2 News, the singer was asked less about that, and more about ex-fiancé Australian billionaire James Packer and his ties to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a video of the exchange, Mimi is asked if she noticed a "special connection" between James and Netanyahu while the three of them had dinner in the past.

She curtly replies, "I was eating the food. They had some food there that was pretty good. I don't know. I was just there 'cause I was invited to a dinner. There was a lot of talk, conversation, food. Dinner."

When the interviewer continues to press the issue, asking if she knew where Packer could possibly be at the moment, she says, "I don't know where the m*********** is! How am I supposed to know? I don't know. For real."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mimi's former lover and Netanyahu are friends. Packer is currently wanted for questioning by Israeli police "as part of an ongoing investigation regarding alleged corruption and illegal gift giving to Netanyahu by several wealthy businessmen."

Mariah broke off her engagement to James last year.

Courtesy of Dept. of Defense Warrior GamesSam Moore of the legendary soul duo Sam & Dave has recorded an anthem called "Show for You" that serves as the new theme of the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games, taking place June 30 to July 8 in Chicago. The Warrior Games are an annual Paralympic-style competition featuring wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans from all branches of the military taking part in various sporting events.

Moore appears in a recently released video featuring "Show for You" that publicizes the eighth annual competition. The clip shows one of this year's competitors, U.S. Marine Corps veteran Lance Corporal Sarah Rudder, running through the streets of Chicago and passing various landmarks as a variety of residents and fellow athletes join her. As the video ends, Rudder and many other athletes are seen proudly assembled at Chicago's Soldier Field.

The video is part of the "By Air, By Land or By Sea" campaign, which promotes the competition by asking viewers how they're planning to get to the Warrior Games. You can watch the clip at Facebook.com/WarriorGames and the DoD Warrior Games' YouTube channel.

Moore recorded "Show for You" with the Chicago Children's Choir. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will sing the anthem at the opening ceremony for the 2017 Warrior Games this Saturday, July 1, at Soldier Field.

U2's next album, "Songs of Experience," is "pretty much done," says bassist

Credit: Anton CorbijnU2 put its long-in-the-works studio album Songs of Experience on hold to mount a world tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of its classic 1987 album The Joshua Tree, but bassist Adam Clayton maintains the record will finally get its release once the band wraps up the trek.

"We're pretty much done on it," Clayton told members of the media Monday night in New York City on the red carpet of the MusiCares gala at which he was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award. "We just want to get this tour out of the way and then we'll figure out what we're gonna do."

The Irish rockers launched The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 last month, and will finish its initial North American leg this Saturday, July 1, in Cleveland. The trek will continue with a series of summer concerts in the U.K., Ireland and mainland Europe, which will be followed by more U.S. shows in September and a tour of Mexico and South America in October.

In a recent interview with Variety, Clayton explained that a factor in U2's decision to delay Songs of Experience's release was the election of Donald Trump.

"Once the election had happened we didn't want to put out a record without having some time to evaluate what was going on and what was behind the outcome," he maintained. "[S]o we did say, 'Let's reexamine where we are,' and we did reexamine and I think it's been better for the record."

He added, that the new album actually "has been ready to go for a while, because it didn't require a lot of surgery, so to speak -- it was a little bit of cosmetic surgery."

U2's tour continues tonight with a concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Credit: Myriam SantosAfter launching a new residency earlier this year at the Wynn Las Vegas resort and casino's Encore Theater, John Fogerty has announced plans to return to the venue for two new series of shows. The ex-Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman has lined up 15 new concerts -- a nine-gig run beginning September 20 and ending October 7 and a six-show stand from January 10 to January 20, 2018.

In a recent interview with Parade magazine, Fogerty explained that his Las Vegas concerts aren't much different from his other shows, except that "there's a little more glitz in production." He adds with a laugh, "Not a whole lot -- I don't come out in a sparkly suit or anything."

Fans coming out to the concerts can expect to hear plenty of CCR classics, as well as some gems from John's solo career. Fogerty's shows also are a family affair, as his backing band features his sons Shane and Tyler.

"It's just great," the 72-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer tells Parade. "We make music together. We travel together. You know, we certainly are with each other all day, like having meals together and stuff. So it's kind of like being…way back in Little League and Cub Scouts [as a parent], except now everybody is getting paid."

Tickets for the upcoming Las Vegas shows are available now at the Wynn Las Vegas box office and WynnLasVegas.com.

In addition to his Vegas shows, Fogerty has a few other upcoming U.S. performances scheduled, beginning with a July 14 show in Aurora, Illinois, and including an August 26 appearance at the Lockn' Festival in Arrington, Virginia. He currently is playing a series of concerts in Europe.

Now that Nikki Sixx is "unofficially retired" from touring, the Motley Crue and Sixx:A.M. bassist now has more time to explore other projects -- like, for example, being a judge on a rebooted TV singing competition.

According to TMZ, producers for ABC's reboot of American Idol are eyeing Sixx to be a judge on the show when it returns. Pop star Katy Perry has already signed on as a judge, and producers are reportedly pursuing Lionel Richie as well.

It's worth noting that during American Idol season 8, Carrie Underwood's version of Crue's "Home Sweet Home" was used as the "exit" song, which was played as contestants were voted off each week.  Carrie also performed the song on that season's finale.

American Idol is slated to return in 2018 on ABC.

The acclaimed documentary about influential songwriter/producer Bert Berns will be released via Apple Music this fall, followed by a global offering via iTunes Movies.

Released theatrically in April and narrated by Steve Van Zandt, the film tells the story of Bert Berns’ amazing career. Berns wrote and/or produced hits for early R&B stars like Solomon Burke, Ben E. King, Wilson Pickett, LaVern Baker and The Drifters. Moving on to the British Invasion, The Beatles recorded his "Twist and Shout” and The Rolling Stones did “Cry to Me.”

Berns was also responsible for hits by Them featuring Van Morrison and Morrison’s first solo hit, “Brown Eyed Girl.” Berns’ BANG Records label, formed in 1965, was also home to artists like the McCoys  of “Hang on Sloopy" fame and the Strangeloves who had a hit with “I Want Candy.” His composition “Piece of My Heart” was later recorded by Janis Joplin as a member of Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Steam singer Gary DeCarlo reportedly dead at 75; gained fame with "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"

Bobby Bank/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The man who co-wrote and sang one of the most famous singles in pop history has reportedly died.

According to TMZ, Gary DeCarlo, lead singer for studio group Steam, lost his battle with cancer at age 75 at a hospital in Connecticut.  ABC Radio has been unable to independently confirm reports of DeCarlo's death.

Steam scored a number-one hit in 1969 with “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.” The song’s catchy chorus has since become ubiquitous at sporting events and other gatherings as a tongue-in-cheek way to mock and/or bid farewell to an opponent. Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives recently chanted it to their Republican counterparts as the GOP’s healthcare reform bill was passed.

DeCarlo co-wrote the single with fellow studio musician Dale Frashuer and producer Paul Leka, who had co-written and produced the Lemon Pipers’ 1967 hit “Green Tambourine.” “Na Na Hey Hey” was recorded in a single, all-night session at a Manhattan studio.

The single was released under the name Steam, even though there was no such band at the time. When it became a surprise hit, Mercury Records sent a different group of musicians on the road to perform as Steam and filmed a lip-synched promotional video.

“Na Na Hey Hey” has been covered by many artists over the years, including the Supremes. British pop vocal trio Bananarama scored a top-10 hit in the U.K. with their cover version in 1983. The song has also been featured in the football-themed film Remember the Titans as well as TV shows like The Simpsons and various commercials.

DeCarlo included a new version of the single on his 2014 album, Long Time Comin.

Appearing on the British TV show Loose Women, for which she serves as a co-host, Penny explained, "My husband just said [to our guests], ‘Look, I know we said no gifts, but how about I just hand a hat around and everyone makes a donation to the [victims of the] terrible fire that happened in Grenfell Tower?’"

“And everyone was generous to do that, and Rod quadrupled it," Penny revealed. "And then afterwards, we wanted to make some more money and thought we could sell some of the pictures...so Hello! [magazine] have been generous with a huge amount of money towards the [victims] fund in exchange for a few pictures and an interview.”

As previously reported, Rod and Penny both spoke to Hello! about the ceremony, which was attended by about 100 family members and friends, including the couple's two children, Alastair and Aiden, who served as ring bearers.

“While the ceremony was going on, we couldn’t help but reflect on all the families that were suffering and we were there having a fun time," Penny said on Loose Women.

“But in the same essence," she continued. "It’s important that we put our arms around each other and share those moments together, because you just never know, do you?"
