Gilbert Carrasquillo/Getty ImagesTake heart, heavy-metal fans: you can now feel free to flash the popular "devil's horns" hand gesture without worrying if KISS bassist Gene Simmons will sue you.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer filed an application to officially trademark the hand gesture earlier this month, but he now has abandoned his attempt to register the trademark.

According to documents on the United States Patents and Trademarks website, Simmons submitted a request to abandon his application on Tuesday, and the office accepted his request the following day.

Simmons filed his trademark application on June 9, while maintaining that the gesture was first used "in commerce" on November 14, 1974, which coincides with the launch of KISS' Hotter than Hell tour. Gene also submitted a drawing of the gesture in question, which shows the index and pinky fingers up and the thumb perpendicular, as well as a photo that shows him making the "devil's horns" while standing next to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

After news of Simmons' trademark application emerged, various people came forward to criticize Gene, including Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx and Wendy James Dio, widow of legendary metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who popularized a similar gesture.

Credit: Alexander ThompsonDebbie Harry and her band Blondie have launched a new campaign called BEE Connected, designed to raise awareness about the decline in the global population of bees, as well as the insects' importance in the food chain and Earth's ecosystems.

The initiative ties in with Blondie's new studio album, Pollinator, and debuted in conjunction with the 10th annual National Pollinator Week, which kicked off Monday, June 19.

The BEE Connected campaign has partnered with a number of environmental organizations, including Pollinator Partnership, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace, which are dedicated to the preservation and health of bee populations via education and consumer and political initiatives.

"Basically, my motives for supporting pollinators is survival; survival of us all, survival of the human race," says Harry.

To raise money for the campaign, limited-edition "Pollinator/Save the Bees" T-shirts are being sold at Blondie.net/beeconnected. The website also features links to various organizations that support bee conservation.

Blondie is also offering a bee-inspired yellow-and-black filter fans can use on their social media sites to promote the BEE Connected campaign. You can download it now at Blondie.net/beesocial.

As previously reported, Blondie will support Pollinator by hitting the road with Garbage on a North American trek dubbed the Rage and Rapture Tour. The outing, which will feature X's John Doe and Exene Cervenka as the opening act, gets underway July 5 in Saratoga, California.

Adam Lambert has been singing with British rock legends Queen on and off since 2011, and they've done a number of tours together.  But as Queen Adam Lambert kick off a new tour tonight in Phoenix, Arizona, Adam admits he still can't believe he's now the frontman of the same band whose song he belted out at his American Idol audition.

"I do have my 'pinch me' moments, yeah," he tells ABC Radio. "Like, I'll finish a song...and I'll kind of think, 'Is this my life? This is so surreal!'"

Adam says he still considers it "such an honor" that he gets to "sing these songs that Freddie" -- Queen's late, iconic frontman Freddie Mercury -- "made famous and to keep his memory alive and honor him."

"It's such a treat," he adds.

So how will this summer's tour differ from previous Queen Adam Lambert shows?  "We're gonna bring back all the hits we've been doing for the past four years together, and we're gonna kind of work up some stuff that we have not done together before," Adam tells ABC Radio.

In addition, he says, "We've changed the entire production design. We've added a lot of bells and whistles, a lot of storytelling elements and videography. And it's gonna be a much higher production level."

So after spending all this time with his musical idols, what's Adam's favorite thing about working with them?

"They are so generous and so humble," he gushes. "They're completely collaborative...I always tell them, 'You guys don't have to be collaborative. You could tell me exactly what to do and I'd be cool with it.' But it's always been like a team effort, which has been really great.

"And they have great stories," he adds. "Great stories."

The song, which is the only original tune on the album, was written by Santana drummer Cindy Blackman Santana, Carlos' wife, who also contributes lead vocals.

Cindy tells Billboard that she wrote "I Remember" in 1997, and decided to present it to her husband for possible inclusion on Power of Peace because she thought it would suit Ron Isley's soulful voice.

"Carlos liked the idea and we took the song down to the studio and played it for everybody, mainly for Ronnie, to see if he would want to perform it," Cindy recalls. However, although Isley loved the tune, he didn't think it was quite right for his voice, so Carlos then declared that his wife should sing it -- much to her surprise.

Cindy reluctantly agreed to take on the lead vocals, but admits she was nervous about singing in front of Isley, whom she considers "one of the greatest singers ever."

In order to feel comfortable laying down the vocals, Cindy reveals, "I said…'Ronnie, you can't look at me. I don't want you looking at me when I do it,' because singing in front of that guy is very intimidating. And it just kind of blossomed from there."

Power of Peace also features covers of 12 tunes previously recorded by such artists as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Chambers Brothers, Billie Holiday, Curtis Mayfield, Muddy Waters and Jackie DeShannon. The songs were chosen to reflect a positive, peaceful message.

"The theme is spiritual divine medicine to counter the fever pitch fear that's permeating this planet right now," Carlos explains about the album.

Credit: Myrna SuarezBilly Joel will return to his alma mater -- Hicksville High School in Hicksville, New York -- on Saturday to help the Class of 2017 celebrate its graduation, Newsday reports.

The event is taking place 50 years after the Piano Man's own commencement was originally scheduled, although he didn't actually graduate, because he was shy one English credit. He finally received his diploma in 1992 during a return visit to the school.

Billy will be among the guest speakers at the 2017 ceremony, which will be held on the school's athletic field. About 400 or so students are expected to graduate during the commencement.

"We're hoping for good weather, but there seems a very good likelihood of rain," a school representative tells Newsday, adding that if it does rain, the ceremony "will be in our gymnasium. If that's the case, it'll be the second time Joel has attended graduation in the gymnasium."

According to Newsday, during Joel's 1992 appearance at the school, he quipped, "Well, here I am, Mom. I'm actually going to get my high school diploma, and it's only 25 years after everyone else got theirs. But Mom, don't worry. I can finally pull myself out of this dead-end job I have and start working on a career with a real future."

Meanwhile, Joel's next concert will be a July 5 show that's part of his ongoing residency at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Although Janet and Jimmy are now apart from one another, both in and outside the studio, they manage to catch up on each others' lives with some quality FaceTime over the phone.  

"I get FaceTime [calls] at like two in the morning, usually when I'm wrapping up in the studio," says Jimmy.  

"It's always just Eissa [on FaceTime], [Janet]'s in the background somewhere. He's the cutest baby in the history of babies." 

Jimmy, along with music partner Terry Lewis, has crafted numerous hits for Janet throughout her career, including "Miss You Much," "Any Time, Any Place," and "Control." 

Jimmy also reveals that he's given Janet some very valuable advice about motherhood and the positive effect it can have on her as an artist.

"I told her that when you have a baby, it's going to be a whole different inspiration for you. A whole different reservoir of creativity, of cadence, of love, and all these things that have always been with you but it doesn't really come out until [you become a parent]. She's recognizing that," says Jimmy.

Jackson is currently preparing for her upcoming State of the World Tour. She's also in the midst of a custody battle with estranged-husband Wissam Al Mana.

Change Begins Within documents a show held at New York City's Radio City Music Hall that included McCartney and Starr performing separately and together, as well as performances by Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Moby, comedian Jerry Seinfeld and others.

Among the highlights of the Change Begins Within concert, which took place April 4, 2009, were McCartney and Starr taking the stage together to play three tunes: the Fab Four classics "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "I Saw Her Standing There," and the Macca rarity "Cosmically Conscious." For the latter two songs, the former Beatles were joined by the evening's other performers.

The show also featured Vedder teaming up with Ben Harper for a rendition of the Queen-David Bowie duet "Under Pressure," Crow playing the George Harrison classic "My Sweet Lord" and Donovan singing his own hit "Hurdy Gurdy Man" with James and Harper. The King of Pop, known for creating timeless music across multiple genres, died on June 25, 2009, after going into cardiac arrest.

Surviving members of Jackson's famous family marked the occasion by remembering him during live performances and on social media.

The Jacksons -- the singing group started with Michael Jackson back in 1964 -- performed at the Glastonbury Festival in England on Saturday.

On stage, his brothers dedicated two of their hit songs to him -- "I'll Be There" and "Gone Too Soon.”

Jermaine Jackson also took to Twitter before the performance to remember his younger brother in his own way.

"We'll be 4 brothers on stage joined by Michael in spirit," he wrote. "Through the music we made together, we find comfort in memories, esp this weekend."

And Michael Jackson's official Facebook page, run by his estate, remembered the music legend in a lengthy message.

"While our hearts remain heavy over the passing of Michael Jackson eight years ago, we take solace in the timelessness of his music and his message," the note began.

"'When I create my music, I feel like an instrument of nature,' Michael once said. 'I wonder what delight nature must feel when we open our hearts and express our God-given talents,'" the message continued.

"For a planet in desperate need of open hearts and compassionate minds, we continue to seek joy and fulfillment in the music and entertainment he shared with us -- and express hope that Michael’s message may someday 'heal the world,' as he tirelessly strove to do," it concluded.

Courtesy of The Peach Music FestivalIn the wake of the recent deaths of founding Allman Brothers Band frontman Gregg Allman and drummer Butch Trucks, organizers for the 2017 Peach Music Festival have announced that the event will include an all-star tribute to the two late musicians.

The special performance will feature former Allman Brothers members and well-known friends and fans of the group teaming up to jam on classic songs by the band.  Participants in the memorial jam will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, a number of new additions to the bill of this year's festival have been announced, including jazz-rock guitarist John Scofield, who will take part in the set by Gov't Mule & Friends. In addition, Pink Talking Fish -- the tribute act known for mixing the music of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish -- will give a full performance of The Allmans' classic 1972 album Eat a Peach.

Previously announced acts on the 2017 Peach Music Festival lineup include the Allman Brothers spinoff groups Les Brers and Jaimoe's Jasssz Band; The Magpie Salute, featuring several ex-Black Crowes members; and funk/R&B legend Chaka Khan, who will perform with the band Lettuce.

Les Brers, which was formed by Trucks, will be giving their final performance at the fest. Butch committed suicide in January at the age of 69; Gregg Allman also was 69 when died in May, from complications of liver cancer.

The sixth annual Peach Music Festival is scheduled for August 10-13 at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The event was founded by the Allman Brothers Band and has continued to be held since the group's 2014 breakup.

The 35-track collection, which originally issued as a three-LP vinyl set, features highlights from the first 10 years of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's music career, including songs he recorded with Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Crazy Horse and as a solo artist.

The remastered Decade was originally released as a limited-edition triple-vinyl package in April for the 2017 edition of Record Store Day, but it's now available everywhere, on vinyl, as a two-CD set and as a digital download.

The reissue features the compilation's original artwork, including restored photos on the inside of the jacket.  Among the many classic songs on Decade are "Mr. Soul," "Sugar Mountain," "Cinnamon Girl," "Down by the River," "Cowgirl in the Sand," "After the Gold Rush," "Southern Man," "Helpless," "Ohio," "Heart of Gold," "Like a Hurricane" and "Long May You Run."

"For those of you asking, I've been playing in bands and touring the world for 40 years, I have no immediate tour plans unless I get a wild hair up my a** or something or somebody really inspirational comes along," Sixx writes in a Facebook post.

"So I guess I'm unofficially retired or maybe just expired at this time," he adds. "Nice to give 100% of my time to my wife and kids."

Motley Crue, of course, wrapped up their farewell tour New Year's Eve 2015. Sixx:A.M. played a one-off show in Dallas earlier this year after spending 2016 on the road with Five Finger Death Punch and Shinedown.

While he won't be touring, Sixx, who'll be 59 in December, will certainly still keep busy: he says there's new Sixx:A.M. albums arriving "soon," and a new book is coming out this year. He's also working with Netflix on a Motley Crue biopic titled The Dirt, as well as a play based on Sixx's autobiography, The Heroin Diaries.

"Yup, I am retired," Sixx jokes.

Credit: Joel BernsteinTom Petty and the Heartbreakers will launch the second of two planned North American legs of their 40th anniversary tour this Thursday in Chicago, and now the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have just announced a new concert taking place September 21 at the famous Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles that will be the final stop on the tour.

Tickets for the show will go on sale to the general public this Thursday, June 29, at 10 a.m. PT. This will mark the seventh time Petty and his group will perform at the Hollywood Bowl.

Acclaimed alt-country singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams will be Petty and the Heartbreakers' special guest at the event. Williams shares a long history with Tom and his band: They recorded Williams' song "Change the Locks" for their 1996 album, Songs and Music from "She's the One"; Lucinda served as their opening act on the Echo Tour in 1999; and she played two Petty compositions at the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute to Tom.

Petty and the Heartbreakers' run of upcoming North American shows kicks off at Chicago's Wrigley Field, and also includes multiple performances in Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Boston, New York City and Berkeley, California. Besides Williams, artists who will open for Petty and company at select concerts include country singer Chris Stapleton, J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf, The Lumineers, and The Shelters.

Mark Sullivan/FilmMagic; John Formosa/Friends of High Park ZooRush's Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart have received many honors during their long career, including induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, but a newly announced accolade from Toronto's High Park Zoo is perhaps the band's most unique.

A trio of baby capybaras -- large South American rodents -- have been named Geddy, Alex and Neil, thanks to a recent poll conducted by the Friends of High Park Zoo.

Over 44,800 votes were cast, with more than 32,500 choosing the first names of Rush's members. The poll's first runners-up were Snap, Crackle and Pop, which received about 9,200 votes.

"We are thrilled to hear that 3 cute little furry creatures from South America now bear our names at High Park Zoo in Toronto!" Lee writes in a post on Rush's Instagram page, which also includes a photo of the capybara cubs. "Thanks to all who voted to give us this special honour! By the way, which one is me? In the picture I saw none of them were wearing glasses."

The capybara triplets, which were born in February are among the popular attractions at High Park Zoo. The young rodents' parents, known as Bonnie and Clyde, made news last year when they escaped from the zoo for several weeks before being recaptured.

Capybaras are found throughout most of South America. The animals are related to guinea pigs, but are much larger, with some adults weighing nearly 150 pounds.

Rush has been inactive since wrapping up a 40th anniversary tour in August 2015. The band has announced that the trek was their final major tour, although Lee and Lifeson have said they expect the group to eventually record more new music.

Gary Miller/Getty ImagesStevie Nicks has recorded a new, stripped-down version of her 1982 Fleetwood Mac hit "Gypsy" that's being used as the theme of a new Netflix series called Gypsy. 

The series, starring Naomi Watts, premieres this Friday, June 30. The opening sequence of the show, featuring the updated rendition of the tune, has been posted on the official Netflix YouTube channel.

Nicks' introspective new version of "Gypsy" features Stevie's vocals accompanied only by piano. The intro to the show features a montage of clips of Watts kissing a man, putting her fingers in the flame of a lighter and smoking a cigarette. During the segment, the actress is viewed through a watch crystal and a bourbon bottle, both of which shatter.

Gypsy is a psychological thriller that features Watts as a therapist who initiates intimate relationships with people who are involved in the lives of her patients.

Interestingly, Nicks also recorded a new tune that's featured on the soundtrack of another project starring Watts: the dramatic film The Book of Henry, which opened in theaters on June 16. That song, "Your Hand I Will Never Let It Go," was written by Ryan Miller, the lead singer of the Boston-based alternative-rock act Guster.

Nicks' next scheduled performance is a solo appearance at Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' July 9 concert at Hyde Park in London. She then will perform with Fleetwood Mac at The Classic West and The Classic East concerts taking place, respectively, on July 16 in Los Angeles and July 30 in New York City. Stevie also has a half-dozen solo concerts lined up in the U.S. in August and September.

Robin Marchant/WireImageMonday night in New York City, U2 bass player Adam Clayton received the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award from MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy. 

The award is given to music industry people who help others in the industry recover from addiction, and Clayton, now sober, has done that, through work with MusiCares' Musicians' Assistance Program.  In his speech, he thanked not only U2 for helping him through his addiction, but also two other legendary rockers.

Clayton, who started his speech by joking, "I'm not used to achieving anything on my own...this is very unusual!" revealed that that after a couple of major benders, Eric Clapton, a former addict himself, called the bass player and told him enough was enough. 

"He didn't sugarcoat it.  He told me I had to change my life and that I wouldn't regret it," said Clayton. "He gave me the name of a treatment center and the power to make the call to them."

During his rehab program, Clayton recalled, The Who's Pete Townshend, another former addict, visited him and gave him further encouragement. 

"These two talents were enough to get me started," he said, "And convince me my life wasn't over, but that I was at the start of a long journey to learn to love myself."

Adam also expressed his gratitude to Bono, Larry Mullen Jr. and The Edge, saying, "We have a pact with each other.  In our band, no one will be a casualty...No one will be left behind. Thank you for honoring that promise and letting me be in your band." 

Clayton ended his speech by quoting U2's "I Will Follow," and then joined his band mates for three songs, including that one, as well as "Vertigo" and "Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of."

On the red carpet, Clayton also talked about U2's current tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1987 album The Joshua Tree.

"It's amazing," he told reporters. "Who would have thought that at this stage, we could come back with a record that we put out 30 years ago, and it could seem as fresh and as relevant as 30 years ago?"

During the 2017 MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit, hosted by Cat Deeley, other artists were personally invited by Adam to play their own songs, and to pay tribute to U2.  Among them:
